Redefining Relationships and Contributing to Reconciliation

This week from October 13-15, the Commission is participating in the 28th Annual Indigenous Bar Association (IBA) Fall Conference to be held at the River Rock Casino and Resort and Musqueam Cultural Centre, in Vancouver, BC.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Redefining Relationships: With or Without You” and will provide the opportunity for industry, government, academics and legal practitioners to discuss how we will move forward with our commitment to redefine Canada and its relationship with Indigenous Peoples’, lands, law and institutions. During the conference, many of the discussions will focus on how can we form relationships or redefine the current relationships within the true spirit and intent of Reconciliation.

The “Breaking down barriers in Human Rights and Justice” panel on October 15 will build on the work initiated through the Honouring the Strength of Our Sisters summary report and collaborate with others to improve access to human rights justice. The panel will also feature the voices of Indigenous women from the South, the North, the East, and the West.

We encourage anyone, particularly those in the legal community, to join us at the conference for these important discussions about how we can all contribute to reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people in Canada.
